I verb ending
The i verb ending, or ren'yōkei (連用形) is a continuative verb ending used when an ending is attached to the main verb. Examples:
Examples of the i form
| Verb |

| aru |
ari |
| toru |

| suru |
shi |
The i form is used, for example, to form the masu form of verbs:
:aru becomes ari plus masu, arimasu,
or the conjunction of verb ending verbs like komu:
:kaku becomes kaki plus komu, kakikomu.
It is called the i form because most verbs in this form end in i, but the vowel stem verbs ending in e actually end in e in this form, so tsukareru "be tired" becomes tsukare, as in otsukaresama, "you're tired".
