Kanji dictionaries
Kanji dictionaries are dictionaries for looking up Chinese characters. One of the earliest kanji dictionaries was the Kang-Xi dictionary of China which introduced the radical system for looking up characters.
Modern Japanese kanji dictionaries include the Dai kan-wa jiten, a fourteen volume work containing around 50,000 separate Chinese characters.
In the twentieth century, kanji to English dictionaries for learners of Japanese began to appear.
