Manga

Manga (漫画) is the Japanese word for comics. Outside of Japan the word manga has come to mean ''Japanese'' comics (and ''Japanese style'' comics). This is not so in Japan itself where there is little or no distinction between 漫画 and コミック (komikku), both of which are freely used for foreign and Japanese works. The same dual meaning applies to the word アニメ (anime).

漫画 is also used to mean caricature, freely and exaggeratedly drawn pictures.

It literally means "uncontrolled pictures".
