Basic level. A very beautiful book, with wonderfully illustrated visual mnemonics for all the katakana/hiragana characters, and about 1000 kanji. Some of these visual aids do not necessarily illustrate the true meanings of the radicals, but are quite memorable anyway.

In a way, great, in another, terrible. You might as well get Henshall's, as this guy even used Henshall's definitions and half of his mnemonics. That would be ok, BUT, A. it, unlike Henshall's, doesn't have the exact definiton in the paragraph below, only a basic one and B. it doesn't cover all of the Joyo Kanji. Great to learn a few hundred Kanji, but it will only take you so far (i.e. not far at all)

As others have pointed out on this list, "Kanji-Pictographics" and also "Remembering the Kanji" are very good books as long as you use them as a tool among other tools when memorizing Kanji's.

They are not very good for learning the On-and Kun-Readings and also not suitable if you are interested ... read more
