Japanese and English

This section discusses the relationship between Japanese and English. The Japanese have greatly taken to using English words in their own language. They have even made up pseudo English words for things, some of which didn't have an English name (see What are these pseudo English words like salaryman?).

How to convert an English word into Japanese phonetics is explained in How do I write an English word in Japanese? See also the FAQ's online English to katakana converter. Here there are also explanations of the origins of some English words like "yen" and "Japan" which don't come from Japanese (see Where does the word yen come from? and Where does the name Japan come from?).
